Save-On-Foods made a very special delivery today when team members dressed in Save-On-Foods green gathered at the Calgary Food Bank eager to offload 3 Save-On-Foods semi trailers loaded with “Welcome Home” packs.

The packs are destined for more than 500 southern-Alberta families who were displaced during evacuation and recent flooding and are now making their way back into their homes. “There are a lot of folks out there who have been through a challenging series of weeks, and just can’t wait to get home and get back to normal life,” commented Save-On-Foods, General Manager, Tony Piwek. “Hearing about the increasing need for support in this community especially now that folks are returning home, we challenged ourselves to see if we could do more to see the community through transition.”

The contents of the packs go beyond the usual essentials, to include important household items not typically distributed by relief organizations. Families will receive 1 Save-On-Foods tote bag containing household supplies and cleaning essentials and a second tote bag containing the ingredients needed to re-stock a pantry, like flour, spices and sugar.

Piwek adds “We've witnessed the generosity and true spirit of this community through some very challenging moments over the past few weeks, and I speak for the entire Save-On-Foods team when I say we're just so glad to be a part of it.”

“Save-On-Foods is helping to ensure that those that have lost everything will have a little less stress in knowing that they will have the staples when they are able to return home. We have seen an increase in demand in Calgary, plus we are shipping out daily to other communities to aid their populations in getting through the stages of re-entering their homes and either re-building or having to re-locate completely. This donation makes a huge difference in our community.” Trudi Webster, Calgary Food Bank.
